Sketty Methodist Church welcomed everyone to
"PRAY WITHOUT CEASING". The theme was "THE SPIRIT"
which was divided into sections -
- joy
- peace
- silence
- contemplation
- compunction
- perseverance
- love
- wisdom.
Each section contained a Psalm, a meditation,
a collect and a centring prayer. There were also other readings and some
music.
There were no candles used (this is because of people who suffer from
asthma etc.)
There was a service at 11pm on Thursday 13th October. The vigil itself
started at midnight and ended at 6 am on Friday 14th.
During this time there was a constant chain of prayer, also workshops
exploring the uses of prayer in different forms (art, craft, media, candles,
music, prayer tree, newspapers and prayer walls etc.,)
Everyone was welcome to join in for as much or as little of this challenging
time as they liked. For those who couldn't make the vigil, there were
writing materials available in the porch, in the weeks preceding the event,
which people were invited to use to write prayers, poetry, meditations
etc. to be used during the night. In addition, written contributions were
also be posted in the church letter box.
Tea and coffee and toast were available through the night together with
the opportunity to rest, if required.
The Swansea and Gower Circuit's time of non-stop prayer
started here!

| During the hour of prayer, whilst music was being
played people were able to write their prayers and pin them to the
tree. |

The third photo shows aids used for meditation
and prayer during the prayer hour. They include wooden words which
show PEACE JOY JESUS LOVE but you only see the words if you are
sitting at the right angle and if you are tuned in! The large cross
was made by women in San Salvador.
Also, if you have Powerpoint on your computer, you might like to
download and view this, "Paradox
of our times", which was sent to us by email. |

What did Rev. Tony have to say about
it?
"Sketty – an opening service, quiet and meditative, which
drew people from all over the circuit, adding prayers to the embroidered
prayer tree on the pulpit-fall. And then a vigil – started with
a reflection in the ‘quiet room’, with candles and soft
chairs... but also a labyrinth to walk – a prayer-wall to cover........"
