The President of the Methodist
Conference officially opened the new church on Sunday 26th September
at 3 p.m. The service was attended by members and friends, community
leaders and representatives of grant making bodies. The church was
full, the choir was at full throttle and we sang our hearts out
in thanksgiving to God. The service began as the last service in
the old church ended on Aug 10th 2003 with Kate Webster a member
of our Comet Club reading this poem.
"I dream of a church where love
and people
Are more important than stone or steeple
I dream of a church with an Open Door
Where no-one is privileged except the poor
I dream of a church where milk and honey
Will flow more freely than power or money
I dream of a church where young and
old
Will be inspired to change their world
I dream of a church that will make
My dreams come true."
At the end of the 3p.m service it was access all areas as people
wandered around the building looking at all the new rooms and features
inc. Theo’s Coffee Shop and the new Mumbles Tourist Information
Centre.
It was over to our Victoria Hall for a fantastic buffet. For those
who were interested a Powerpoint display displaying the building
works from start to finish was on continuous loop in the corner
of the hall.
At 6 p.m, 200 people packed the church again as we were joined
by our friends throughout the Swansea and Gower Methodist Circuit.
Again the President of the Conference preached and we sang some
of the great hymns of the Christian faith concluding and nearly
taking the new roof off with Charles Wesley’s great hymn ‘And
Can It Be’. (File size 128K). (To
listen to this, you will need to download RealPlayer as described
above).
